Kosta Boda Art Gallery

Art gallery in the heart of the Kingdom of Glass

Entre till Kosta Art Gallery

Kosta Boda Art Gallery is an art gallery a stone's throw from the glass furnaces at Kosta Glasbruk. The art gallery represents our contemporary art glass with new exhibitions from our famous artists and designers.
Never before has so much glass art been available in one place. Let yourself be seduced by the different artists' different expressions and ways of relating to the glass. Maybe you'll find a piece of art that speaks directly to you.

Kosta Boda Art Gallery consists of an art gallery, designed by Bruno Mathsson in the early 50s. Bruno Mathssonhallen has a glass mosaic floor, made in Kosta, and floor-to-ceiling windows. At the far end hides a wall painting by Vicke Lindstrand. The old Brukskontoret was converted into a gallery in 2014. In the Glass Bar, designed by Lena Bergström, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a cold drink in peace and quiet.
One of the many unique items that can only be bought in Kosta is the Kosta pot. The pot is made of 100% recycled glass from Kosta Glasbruk and has an inlaid stamp.

Kosta Boda has a long tradition of producing world-class art glass and the reputation of Kosta Boda as creative, artistic and challenging has spread far beyond Sweden's borders. Our artists and designers are known for their artistry, their artistry and their ability to surprise and continue to develop unique techniques in glass design. At Kosta Boda Art Gallery you can buy world-class art glass.

With Kosta Boda art glass, we reach out into the world, while bringing the world home to Kosta. With the endless possibilities of glass in focus, our artists create art based on creativity, knowledge and courage, combined with the love of glass as a material.

Palace Garden

Opening on Saturday 27 April

We open the summer season with the exhibition, Palace Garden, which builds on last summer's successful anniversary exhibition at Solliden. Åsa Jungnelius, Ellen Ehk Åkesson, Markus Åkesson, Johan Röing and Bertil Vallien participate with their installations from Solliden, supplemented with new works.

Åsa Jungnelius

Åsa Jungnelius is interested in the monumental expressions and the socially and structurally constructed spaces where they take place. Through objects and materials as value-bearing representations for identity and projection surface for the corporeal, she investigates the relationship between matter and man and the sliding scale of positioning that is constantly renegotiated and recreated throughout history. Now Åsa shows new sculptures in her first solo exhibition in Kosta Boda Art Gallery.

Ellen Ehk Åkesson's

Concepts such as seeking one's roots and digging where one stands may be clichés, but are highly relevant in describing Ellen Ehk Åkesson's artistic endeavours. Ellen was born in Småland, where she still lives today, now with her family, in Nybro - in the centre of the Glass Kingdom. Here she works in a studio in the old Pukeberg glassworks where her husband Markus Åkesson, an artist, also has his studio - he too is linked to Kosta Boda. Based in Småland, Ellen has exhibited all over the world. She is represented in galleries in Stockholm, Paris and the rest of Europe. Her work can be found in many collections in Asia, where her art has been shown extensively.

Markus Åkesson

Markus Åkesson has become known internationally primarily for his evocative, technically sophisticated realistic paintings. Ever since his time as a glass engraver, Markus Åkesson has felt a strong attraction to glass. Together with the blowers and grinders in the cabin at Kosta Glassworks, Åkesson has begun what he is convinced will be a long-term exploration of glass.

Johan Röing

Johan Röing is the latest artist to join Kosta Boda. He is known primarily as a sculptor, trained for seven years at the legendary Düsseldorf Academy of Art during the institution's heyday in the 1980s. This was not long after the school's controversial, pioneering professor and shaman Joseph Beuys - one of the greatest figures of 20th century art - had been expelled from the school.

The Düsseldorf Academy is one of the most important educational institutions of post-war art. Many of the greatest German artists were educated there.

Bertil Vallien

Together with Kosta Boda, Bertil Vallien has explored and developed the art of glass into something completely his own, beyond old truths and techniques. Time and again, his visionary journey into the melting point of glass has presented co-workers and assistants with tough challenges. He early left the elegantly cut crystal glass behind for a rawer reality with his sand castings.
