The glass bar – a unique glass-inspired underwater environment

Drinks & dishes from the bar menu are served in the Glasbaren. The hotel's natural focal point where the 3.5 tonne cobalt blue glass bar takes center stage. Kosta Boda's designer Kjell Engman has created a unique environment with glass fish swimming in water, table lamps created like large bottles and beautiful glass stalactites hanging sparkling from the ceiling. Here you sit down on a heated and illuminated glass chair while you enjoy a drink in one of Orrefor's beautiful crystal glasses and order a piece of food from the bar menu.

The glass bar is designed by the designer Kjell Engman

The Glasbaren was created by the designer Kjell Engman, who came to Kosta from Stockholm back in 1978. Kjell has dived a lot and that's where the inspiration for the Glasbaren came from. The symbolism continues with the bar's stone floor, where tables are arranged like archipelago islands and the glass stalactites on the ceiling represent the sun's rays breaking the surface of the water.

The "Glass Magician" Kjell Engman is a tireless glass artist with boundless imagination and a joy of storytelling that finds free outlet in both utility and art glass. Kjell Engman draws inspiration from the animal kingdom and the world of music. He often works with larger installations where he also uses elements such as sound and light. Kjell Engman is frequently hired for public decorations both nationally and internationally.

Glasbarens signumdrink ”1742” – i form av en liten glasugn.

Den heter 1742 eftersom det var då som det började produceras glas på Kosta glasbruk, som förövrigt är Sveriges äldsta aktiva glasbruk. Drick den rykande het eller isande kall! Komponerad med mycket kärlek på de bästa råvarorna. Inspirerad av vårt arv. Med en len men ändå tydlig smak av Småland!
